Fun Halloween Ideas For Property Managers

As a property manager, you don’t have to do anything to engage your residents at Halloween, or any time during the year. However, many of your residents are paying a premium to live there – and little things can go a long way toward keeping them happy. Building a sense of community, making them feel attached to each other and to where they live can lead to longer-term leases and better payment habits.

So, how are you celebrating Halloween this year? We’ve got some ideas for you below:

1) Create a Community Haunted House

Many apartment communities feature a common area. Enlist some help to turn it into a haunted house for Halloween. You can use smoke machines and boom boxes to create the atmosphere. Set up a maze for the kids. This could really be a fun way to bring your residents together. 2) Put on a Halloween Decorating Contest

Depending on the layout of your community, you could set up a contest a few different ways. Residents could decorate their doors, or maybe their porches. Or they could go all out with yard decorations. Enlist a few volunteers to judge and offer a prize. Make it something worthwhile, like a gift card or certificate to a local store or restaurant. You may even be able to find a local business that will split the cost of the gift certificate with you as a “sponsor.”

3) Thumbs Up to Trick-or-Treating

Give your residents notice that trick-or-treating is ok. Maybe there are certain hours or other community rules, so remind them. And encourage them to take part.

4) Decorate The Property

One easy way to promote community involvement is to lead by example. Go ahead, put up some scarecrows or some spiderwebs. Carve a few pumpkins. Let your residents know that you, as their property manager, care about the details.

5) Pumpkin Carving Contest

Another good contest idea would be a pumpkin carving contest. You could provide participants with a pumpkin as an incentive to participate. Distribute some guidelines, reminders about safety, not leaving lit candles inside – maybe a recommendation to use electric candles. Then let the contest begin. Find a few volunteers to judge, and offer a worthwhile prize. As before, you may be able to partner with a local business to “sponsor” the event or help with the cost of a gift card.

Hopefully these ideas get your juices flowing and spark even more creative ways for you to engage with your residents and build community at your complex this holiday season.
